Born Albert Porter Davis, 13 November 1890 in Palestine, Texas, graduated from Meharry Medical College, Nashville, TN in May 1913. Dr. Davis passed the Kansas Medical Board 20 Jun 1913. In 1920, Davis opened the Davis Maternity Sanitarium for Unwed Mothers at 422 Minnesota Ave, Kansas City, Kansas.
Medical Biography
Dr. A. Porter Davis served on the staff of two area hospitals, Wheatley-Provident Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri and Douglas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas.
From 1926 - 1932, Dr. Davis served as the Assistant Health Director of Wyandotte County, KS. He also served two terms as the Deputy Coroner of Wyandotte County, KS, 1940 and 1950.
In 1953, Dr. A. Porter Davis was President of the National Medical Association for African American physicians. At the time black physicians were barred from joining the segregated American Medical Association.
